Dear Prime Minister,I’m writing because I’m deeply worried about the future of Thames Water. Its 16 million customers are being asked to pay more, while the company remains buried in almost £20 billion of debt, its infrastructure needs substantial investment and our rivers continue to suffer.Thames Water’s creditors have come first for too long. We now need a different approach. One that puts customers, clean water, healthy rivers and long-term resilience first.I’m asking your Government to:<ul><li dir="ltr" role="presentation">Apply for Special Administration for Thames Water NOW - Use the powers the Government already has to apply to the High Court to place Thames Water into Special Administration without further delay, keeping essential services running while the company’s finances and long-term future are fixed. </li><li dir="ltr" role="presentation">Put public interests first - Make sure that, throughout Special Administration and in deciding Thames Water’s future, customers, the environment and long-term resilience take priority over financial extraction. </li><li dir="ltr" role="presentation">Strengthen the Special Administration Regime for the future - Use the Clean Water Bill to establish clear and transparent rules for when Special Administration should be used and require proper contingency plans for failing water companies, without delaying action on Thames Water under the existing law. </li><li dir="ltr" role="presentation">Evaluate all credible models for the water sector - Commission an independent feasibility study evaluating different ownership, financing and governance models, including public, mutual, not-for-profit and public-benefit companies.</li></ul>You have said that our water industry has not been working for people for far too long. You have said that essential services should be run for public benefit. Placing Thames Water into Special Administration is an opportunity to turn those words into action.Please act now to protect customers, restore our rivers and create the opportunity for a better future for Thames Water.<div></div>
